“To journey for the sake of saving our own lives is little by little to cease to live in any sense that really matters, even to ourselves, because it is only by journeying for the world's sake - even when the world bores and sickens and scares you half to death - that little by little we start to come alive." -Frederick Buechner
As a child growing up, I had two favorite times of the year. Christmas and my birthday. Mostly because of the gifts. I remember digging through the Sears Toy Catalog around Christmas time, picking out the “stuff” I wanted for Christmas.
Then…weeks before my birthday, I would not so subtly hint to my parents, grandparents, and any other potential gift-givers of what I wanted for my “special day.”
Well, are you ready? Here comes the hint. I will try to be subtle. Today is my birthday!! And I want gifts! Lots of them! And I want them from you! I guess some things never change. Well…maybe they change a little. You see, I actually don’t want, or need “stuff” anymore. But I know someone who does. I know children who want and need to be protected from those who seek to enslave and exploit them.
Love146 has a specific prevention project that we are doing along the border of Thailand and Cambodia. We will be training and placing anti-trafficking Border Officers to be stationed at key, high-risk border crossings where they have the opportunity to intervene. We're getting there AHEAD of traffickers. The Border Officers are acting as “watchdogs”, observing trends and patterns they encounter while working. They will actually help us get a picture of how traffickers are organizing and strategizing, so we can anticipate their moves and intercept their efforts.

I have often commented that the obvious key to ending modern day slavery is to prevent it from happening in the first place. That’s what this is about.
So to celebrate my birthday this year, would you give to protect children from becoming victims of human trafficking and exploitation? The total cost of this project is $12,000. Like I said, I want gifts and lots of them. You can make your gift here. I will be giving myself a gift for my birthday by contributing toward this effort. Will you join me?
You may not give a rip about my birthday, but you really care about children. I can’t think of a better way to celebrate my birthday than knowing that together we are protecting and defending the most vulnerable.
Thanks a million!!
