Nicole Von Oy has been with Love146 for a while, working as our Training & Outreach Coordinator and leading much of our prevention education efforts in the United States. If you don't know Nicole, she's a fairly super lady — talking boldly with children who may or may not want to hear what she has to say about sexual exploitation and human trafficking.
During the fall, Nicole met weekly with a group of girls who are living at a group home in Connecticut. Different group homes do different things and this one is a short-term transitional solution for girls who, for whatever reason, cannot live any more with their families.
Shortly after completing her time with the girls, a letter came in the mail.
It was from the group home. Nicole said she rarely communicates with the girls after a session is over and getting a letter from one of the girls is unheard of.
Nicole read the letter for us at our recent staff lunch and we wanted to make sure you could be as encouraged by it as we were:
It is so hard for me to write this goodbye letter but I just want you to know that I could never find a friend like you and I'm so proud that I got to meet someone like you and I also want you to know that you are a very good woman and if it wasn't for you I could not have made it through all those problems and drama. You are a phenomenal women… and you will always be to me. Keep doing what you doing keep helping kids that need help. You do great at your job and don't listen to no hater that tell you bull about how to do your job because no one do your job better than you. If I ever disrespected you I never meant anything I said to you and I'm still sad because I will never see you again and Catherine and Emily* say hi and they miss you more than I do so promise that you will come to visit or call like you always tell us. You beautiful and I would never forget anything you taught me and you are a good person with a great personality stay who you are don't ever change.
