Every February, many of us from all over the world participate in the @enditmovement’s annual campaign to “Shine a Light on Slavery.” Depending on what you used to draw a red X on your hand (symbolizing your commitment to the movement), it will either fade rapidly or over time. No matter what, it WILL fade.
But as the “X” fades, our (collective) resolve will not. Our determination, our will, and our tenacity will only strengthen and increase. Our efforts to end the trafficking and exploitation of human beings will continue today, tomorrow, and for as long as it takes until all are free. As Gary Haugen from International Justice Mission said: “The victims of injustice in our world do not need our spasm of passion; they need our long obedience in the same direction — our legs and lungs of endurance.”
Some have accused us of being idealistic or naïve to believe that we can end the trafficking and exploitation of people. I disagree. Ending human trafficking is not idealistic or naïve. It is audacious. And it is people of audacity who change the world.
