  • What does education mean to survivors of child trafficking?
  • "My heart becomes happy every time I am learning new things.” - A Survivor of Child Trafficking

What does education mean to survivors of child trafficking in the Round Home? No one says it better than, well, the survivors of child trafficking in the Round Home:

Sonya

“I dream of becoming a lawyer someday because I want to help those people who need help, especially oppressed children like me. Education is valuable to me because it will help me to achieve all my dreams and wants in life. Through education, I can give myself and my family a better life, so different from the kind of life that I experienced before. My children will not experience to be sold because unlike my mother, I would be capable of raising them.”

– Sonya, 9

Mae

“Love146 also helped me to see the significance of education because I was able to realize that education is just like a weapon that protects a person against ignorance. When I finish my studies, my dream of becoming a stewardess will come true, I will also be able to raise my family from poverty and I can also protect myself from bad people because I can distinguish between right and wrong.”

– Mae, 13

Peggy

“If I finish my studies, I am sure that my life will become brighter and more beautiful. My dream of becoming a nurse will also come true and when I am a nurse, I will provide free treatment to children and the elderly. I will also help my younger siblings to finish their studies so that they can also achieve their dreams in life. When a dream of a child comes true, her life will be a happy and colorful one.”

– Peggy, 6

Mindy

“I want to study in order to learn the things that I want to learn in life. Education will also help me to achieve my dream of traveling to different places. My heart becomes happy every time I am learning new things.”

– Mindy, 7

Maddie

“It is my dream to become an accountant when I grow up. Sometimes I find it hard to understand my teacher’s lectures and answer the exams but I always tell myself, ‘I can make it because a lot of people love and believe in me’.”

– Maddie, 11

Claudia

“I am studying diligently because it is my dream to become a lawyer when I grow up. I want to become a defender of the oppressed. I have experienced being oppressed, that’s why I don’t want other children to have the same experience. I realize that I am fortunate because I was given the opportunity to continue my studies because it’s the chance to change my life and other people’s lives; that’s why education really has a strong influence on our lives.”

– Claudia, 10

Jasmine

“One of the most beautiful gifts that I received is the chance to study. That’s why we also need to be a gift to other people by sharing what we have learned with other people who were unable to have an education, like my mother and father. I would like to teach my mother and father how to read and write. Through education, I can be intelligent in making decisions and other people cannot deceive me.”

– Jasmine, 9

Mimi

“Education is like a bright light in my life because it will guide me in the right path and it will not let me stumble and fall until I am able to reach all of my dreams in life.”

– Mimi, 13
