Last November, in Thessaloniki, Greece a gathering was held on the subject of Protecting Children from Abuse. Among speakers and attendees were academics, politicians and prosecutors under the auspices of the European Council.
Eva Kaili, Greek Member of Parliament for Thessaloniki put forward Love146 as an international organisation working with children who would be good to work with on developing a strategy. Those attending were also given literature about the history of Love146 and its programmatic involvement in aftercare and prevention.
Today in Greece there was a gathering of 8,000 senior school children at one of the Olympic arenas in Athens to see US Basketball Sports Envoys to Combat Trafficking in Persons, which included Tracy Murray NBA, Ashley Robinson WNBA and Peja Stojakovic NBA. Publicity for Love146’s upcoming Run For Love fundraising event in Greece was distributed to attendees.
RUN FOR LOVE GREECE will take place in the cities of Athens and Thessaloniki this October. All monies raised at these events will go to resource partner projects in Greece working to identify exploited young people caught in prostitution and those working to address cultural demand by giving young people opportunities not to perpetuate generational cycles which fuels exploitation. Nea Zoi and the No Project have been long term friends and co-laborers of Love146 in the fight to end trafficking in Greece and it is a privilege to partner with them on Run For Love. Funding will also go towards turning the tide on the supply of victims to Greece by working with vulnerable young people in Romania and Moldova.
Love146 works with others in establishing long-term change in nations most affected by human trafficking. We are committed to drawing upon local expertise and supporting those who are bringing innovative and collaborative responses to the exploitation of children.
“A child’s lost childhood is humanity’s lost chance… There is no time to keep denying this uncomfortable truth. It’s time to take action. I am honoured to join LOVE146, and to do what is possible and impossible to contribute to the elimination of children slavery. Our voice is their hope, our fight is their existence. And by knowing that, every day counts.” -Eva Kaili – MP for Thessalonikis – Hellenic Parliament
