I first participated in Tread on Trafficking in 2012 when a friend of mine told me about the Love146 because he knew I was looking for a way to do something for a good cause. When I first started reading about children affected by human trafficking, I had mixed emotions: anger, sadness, and an overall feeling of wanting to take action.
I had heard about such things occurring but I hadn’t really understood how extensive and evil human trafficking really was. The pictures and videos on the Love146 website are both powerful and heartbreaking. What I liked about the organization was that they were working to restore the lives of those children who had to bear the scars of the abuse.
I challenged myself to run 100 miles.
I met my goal through persistence—this wasn’t an ultra marathon kind of thing, I just ran what I could each week. I ended up hurting my knee and taking a week off, which was frustrating, but I was still able to meet my goal.
I just couldn’t stop when I thought about the kids.
I am planning on Treading on Trafficking again this year, and this year, my goal is to get more people involved and aware of this tragedy that is a reality in our world. I am now a monthly donor and I honestly believe that Love146 does great work. If you are like me and feel like you just need to get up and do something about child trafficking, Tread on Trafficking with me!
