How does a digital consultancy firm and an organization of passionate abolitionists end up together? Like most great relationships, our story with Love146 began innocuously and unexpectedly, and what sustains it is both personal and unique.
We became aware of child trafficking and exploitation and the work of Love146 by hearing President and Co-founder Rob Morris speak in our church at Christmastime in 2010. Here are our individual recollections of that morning:
I was listening to Rob Morris share an unorthodox version of “The Christmas Story” about one morning when he found himself down in his basement and up to his armpits in refuse due to a backed up sewage pipe. This “not-on-a-postcard” moment connected me with my faith in a fundamental way. A new understanding of redemption, “stepping into a mess others would avoid and restoring it,” shook me, filled me with gratitude, and challenged me to live out a life that modeled this approach. — Ben
“Rob spoke of encountering a girl who’s name had been replaced by a number, 146. A number? I was grasping to comprehend how and why such an atrocity would happen to anyone, let alone children. As a mother of girls at similar ages at the time, I had a feeling of deep heartbreak and sorrow, a kind that I’m not sure I had experienced before. I was completely wrecked, and indignant over the injustice.” — Mary
While Rob’s talk touched us in different ways, the conclusion was the same: life can be truly messy and you have a choice in how you respond.
Oftentimes people fall into the trap of thinking that one person’s efforts can’t make a difference. And yet for us, forever changed in this seminal moment, we realized it was a personal call to action and belief that we can make an impact.
Our company, Twin Technologies, is passionate about transforming the human experience. Whether it’s the lives of our employees, the clients we work with and their customers, or in support of organizations like Love146.
We believe that there is an opportunity for life to improve and change, and we have a part to play in making that happen.
By no means do we compare the business world in which we operate to the hard places that Love146 steps into. However, there is a quality that we both identify with and share. Gritty Authenticity.
That unflinching view to the realities in front of us, allied with the commitment to get to work to change things. It holds us accountable to the mission, causes us to ask the hard questions, and pushes us to spend ourselves in efforts worth doing.
While we specialize in helping companies navigate the chaos and disruption caused by an increasingly digital world, the way in which we do that puts people — individuals — at the center. Technology, strategies, and programs are all tools to help, but fundamentally it is about solving meaningful business challenges that changes the way our clients and their customers interact and connect.
Love146’s willingness to roll up its sleeves and step into the middle of one of our planet’s most grotesque messes, along with its commitment to maintain a focus on the value of every individual child has inspired us.
They are a constant reminder that we are to focus on the problems that matter and do so fearlessly. There’s a common commitment to gritty authenticity, though we operate in two very different parts of our world.
Our hope is that as we share some of the lessons we’ve learned in the corporate world, lend our financial support, and engage in their mission, Love146 will continue to grow in health and impact as we partner in this idea of transforming the human experience.
