Frederick Buechner said: “To journey for the sake of saving our own lives is little by little to cease to live in any sense that really matters, even to ourselves, because it is only by journeying for the world’s sake — even when the world bores and sickens and scares you half to death — that little by little we start to come alive.”
Today we celebrate the birthday of our Director of Asia Prevention, Dr. Glenn Miles!
Glenn is one of those people you meet who truly journeys for the sake of others. No matter what.
You will notice in Glenn’s bio that he has more letters after his name than alphabet soup. But Glenn is much more than an academic and a researcher. He has “street cred.” He is a practitioner who gets his hands dirty in the field. It’s where he is most comfortable and where he shines. Even in this, he exudes humility, sees himself as a learner and, interestingly enough, often looks to the children we seek to serve as his teachers.
Glenn is a husband, father, networker, mentor and friend. He is a champion of those who are often overlooked in the anti-trafficking movement — boys, the LGBT community, and especially grassroots anti-trafficking workers themselves. He is known for his incredible ability to encourage, mentor and empower others.
He and his amazing family have continued to fight for the rights of the vulnerable and oppressed, in some of the most difficult circumstances…even when the world should “sicken and scare them to death.” All the while insisting constantly that the voices of children are heard. That they are truly listened to. That their opinion counts.
So here’s to Glenn…a man who lives in every sense that really matters!
