Children who have survived trafficking and exploitation deserve to see legal justice brought against the people who harmed them. They deserve the most up-to-date therapeutic interventions available. They deserve a community that understands their unique needs as young people dealing with the effects of severe abuse.
But they also deserve carnival rides…
…buttered popcorn at the movies…
…Hello Kitty balloons…
…dolphin balloons large enough to ride on…
…and sloppy, silly, ice-cream-covered faces.
The survivors who live in our safe homes are children, and that breaks our hearts. But it also means they deserve to be children.
Life is pretty scary sometimes. The kids know that. So do you. You don’t have to look much farther than the evening news to remember that. But take a break to celebrate today, because life isn’t only severe. And get a waffle cone if it’ll help you remember that this world is ALSO beautiful and you are worthy.
