Carolina Fuentes, LMSW is the Love146 Texas Training and Outreach Coordinator. Her role at Love146 is to engage the community in prevention by engaging youth and the service providers that work with them through education.
When I was walking in the building this morning, there was a man coming in behind me. I opened the door for the office and he stayed walking in the hallway while he answered a call.
Then he walked in and asked:
“So what is Love146? What do you do?”
As soon as I started telling him about us, he had more questions and I could tell he was very interested. I was able to briefly talk about our Prevention Education program, the story of our name and answered a couple of his questions about trafficking.
He did not know it also happens to children from the U.S.
With teary eyes, he said that he had a daughter and hearing about this issue had touched him deeply. He said he loved the pictures in our office and that they were beautiful. I explained our perspective in trying to portray dignity, life and hope in our pictures and in who we are as an organization. He said that he wanted to introduced me through email to a couple of contacts he has in a school district where there are many at-risk youth.
I told him that we would keep his info and invite him to events. He said that he has a couple of wealthy friends that he would gladly try to bring to our events or influence to get in touch with us.
It was a great start for my morning. I was encouraged and I believe he was too.
