For some young people, summer can mean losing the steady routines and connection to trusted adults that school provides. Long stretches of unsupervised time can increase their vulnerability to people looking to exploit them.
Love146 steps into that gap.
This summer, young people in Love146’s Survivor Care Program are hiking through the woods and walking by the ocean. They are pressing flowers, tie-dyeing T-shirts, blowing bubbles, flying kites, and canoeing rivers. Some might be doing these classic summer activities for the very first time, with us!
These experiences are fun, yes. But more profoundly, they also show young people that joy does not have to come with strings attached.
Traffickers may present themselves as the person who can offer excitement, belonging, or access to something a young person needs. But we want to show youth that the beauty of life can be found alongside people who respect them and expect nothing in return.
Our care continues long after canoes leave the water.
Our staff shows up for therapeutic conversations and helps each young person move toward the goals they have chosen. When they are ready, we support them as they process what they have lived through. We help them build a future free from exploitation, rooted in love.
